In this project, you will first create a wiki page on the class wiki site. This page will hold links to photos, scripts/notes, and finally your finished video project. You will also use FlickrStorm to locate and create photo sets of Creative Commons images to use for your story. Finally, you will develop a short digital story in PhotoStory that will use the images you collected in addition to a narrative story based around those images, and background music.
Create your Wiki Page and Find Images on FlickrStorm
The next step is to download the photos from your FlickrStorm Photo Set to your computer...

Now, you will use your downloaded images to create your Digital Story...
Creating your Story using PhotoStory
At this point, you should have a folder (or several folders) of images you generated and downloaded from FlickrStorm. These images should be stored on your personal network drive (Y drive).
Now, open PhotoStory and begin the process.
You will first import the images you downloaded from FlickrStorm.
You can then add titles and adjust the panning and zooming of images.
You will then be prompted to record your story over each photo. Using the script your wrote, you will need to determine the pacing and placement of your script over each image BEFORE you begin recording. Note: It is NOT necessary to record your voice over EVERY picture. How you narrate your story is up to you.
Once this is finished, you can use PhotoStory to create background music for your story. Be creative and have fun.
Finally, once your project is complete, you will export it to Windows Media format (.wmv) and save it on your personal network drive (Y drive). Name the file FirstName-LastInitial-NameOfStory (i.e. John M - Oregon Story). You will also need to save it to the designated folder in the R drive.
The process for creating a digital story with PhotoStory is covered in thisprintable tutorial. You can also look at some PhotoStory screencasts below.
Tutorial 1| Beginning the digital storytelling process, corresponds to pages 1-2 of the tutorial handout.
Tutorial 2| Removing black borders from images, corresponds to page 3 of the tutorial handout.
Tutorial 3| Adding text to a title slide or image, corresponds to page 4 of the tutorial handout.
You can also createblank slides/imagesthat would be great for a beginning title or ending title. Just choose the color you like, download it as an image to your computer, and import the image into PhotoStory. You can then place it anywhere in your story and add text titles to it.
Be sure you test how your voice will sound before you record your entire story. You may need to adjust the input setting of your microphone.
You can reorganize the order of your photos by simply dragging them around on the timeline.
When setting transitions, make sure you set the duration to automatic. This way, the slide will show for as long as your recorded narration.
Assessment
You will be graded using the followingscoring guide. Use this guide as a reference while you create your story.
