  • What are your concerns and fears about your children using the Internet?

  • Think before you post video - from YouTube

  • Stats of social networking use worldwide - Facebook, MySpace

  • Explain private vs. personal information

  • IM, Social Networks, Blogs - do you know if your children have accounts? If so, do you have access to their accounts? Discuss what kinds of information should and shouldn't be shared.

  • What to do if you are a parent?

    • Talk to your kids about what they are doing online. Keep open line of communication.

    • Show interest and validate their need to be social creatures and digital natives.

    • Sign up with the services they use and become a "friend" to your child.

  • Blocking and restricting access

    • Parental controls in Vista/XP/OS X

    • OpenDNS.org - filter all computers in your house at the router level. Totally free and works great.

    • Acceptable use policies with your children.
