Six Picture Story

In this project, you will create a digital story using either VoiceThread or PhotoStory. Your story:

  • will contain voice narration telling a story surrounding your images

  • will have background music (PhotoStory only)

You will be creating a photo story based on the search term you chose.

Be creative! Be fun! Find a search term that interests you (a favorite color or season are good places to start). You may want to experiment with different search terms to find what you are looking for.

Once you have your topic, you will need to plan out your story. For your planning document, create a Microsoft Word document and save it to your personal folder (Y drive).  You will include the following elements in your plan:

  • Introduction - explain your topic and why you chose it. Does it have a personal connection with you?

  • Story - write a creative story around your topic or search term.

  • Outcome - write a conclusion or closing statement.

Remember, this document will help you organize your thoughts and to generate a script that you will record. Be as descriptive as you can and it's OK to write a lot. You will edit later in the process. Please print and turn in the document when finished.

Images

You will then visit FlickrStorm or Wikimedia Commons to locate appropriate images for your story. Please review this FlickrStorm tutorial (by David Jakes) for information on how to use FlickrStorm. Once you locate your images, you will download them to your personal folder (Y Drive). Using FlickrStorm and/or Wikimedia Commons will allow you to properly cite your images as well. If you have personal family photos that you would like to use, you may bring them to school and scan them into your Y: drive. For more information about properly citing your photo sources, please visit The OWL at Purdue.

PhotoStory

Once you have images saved to your personal folder (Y Drive), you will then begin using PhotoStory to put together your digital story. Please review the PhotoStory tutorial (by David Jakes) to learn about the process.

Post to the Project Drive

Once you have successfully completed and saved your digital story, you will then save your completed story to the R: drive in your teacher's folder. You will also need to include a document that cites your sources. Call this document Photo Sources (your last name).

Post to Mister Mak's Classroom Wiki

Create a new page, name it according to the page naming rules, place in the appropriate folder, and tag it correctly according to teacher suggestion. Post your video to your wiki page.

Assessment

You will be graded using the following scoring guide.
